Energy revolution: system security

In recent years, the energy landscape has been undergoing a radical transformation from large conventional power plants towards more and more renewables.

Phasing out of nuclear

The daily management of the electricity system is strongly influenced by the phasing out of nuclear generation, the shift toward higher shares of renewables, the aging of existing generation facilities and the increase of decentralized actors in the electricity landscape.

This transformation requires increasingly sophisticated tools and expertise and more and more real-time coordination across national borders and with grid operators and producers in lower voltage levels.

Integration of renewables

50Hertz’s grid today secures the integration of over 40% of all installed wind-power capacity in Germany. In 2014, more than 35 per cent of the consumption in 50Hertz’s region was already accounted for by electricity from renewable energy sources.
