International cooperation

As European high voltage grids became highly interconnected and markets get integrated, transnational coordination between TSOs constantly improves to guarantee the safe operation of the interconnected system with a view to offer a maximum of exchange capacities to the market players.

Several international cooperation and coordination initiatives have been taken in the past years to ensure a safe and reliable system operation as well as a well-functioning European electricity market.

As members of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) the TSOs of the Elia Group develop common solutions for Europe (e.g. via the development of network codes) and work closely together with the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) to further progress on the completion of the European electricity market.

The Elia Group has taken the responsibility to chair the Market Committee of ENTSO-E, the central body of the TSOs to drive the market integration in Europe.

Another central element of the cooperation of the European TSOs, is the Ten Year Network Development plan (TYNDP), where all TSOs plan the grid of the future while taking a special attention to the needs of the market.
