On Thursday 21 December, Elia’s Board of Directors appointed Bernard Gustin as the new chairman of the Board of Directors, for a period of 3 years with immediate effect. Bernard Gustin has been an independent non-executive director of the Elia Board since 16 May 2017.

I see many similarities between the energy and the aviation sector and I am looking forward to use my experience to support the Elia management in achieving its goal to become a leader of the energy transition."
Bernard Gustin has an extensive experience in international business. He is at the helm of Brussels Airlines as Chief Executive Officer. Previously he occupied various senior positions at the global consulting firm Arthur D. Little, where he was a member of the Benelux Management Committee. Bernard started his career at Procter & Gamble.
Bernard Gustin holds a degree in Commercial Engineering from ICHEC, Brussels and an MBA from Solvay Business School – Free University of Brussels (ULB/VUB).
The Board of Directors is convinced that Bernard Gustin, with his proven track record of accomplishments as a leader and indepth experience in various industries, will bring a wealth of knowledge and valuable experience to the position.
Bernard Gustin succeeds Claude Grégoire, who had been appointed interim chairman on 16 May 2017. The Board wishes to express its fullest appreciation to Claude Grégoire for his constructive leadership during this interim period and is pleased to have his continued involvement as a Director of the company.
Elia's Board of Directors counts 14 members, half of whom are independent directors.
