Guardians of the Grid - Episode 2

This summer, the Elia teams in Leest once again demonstrated what it means to be ‘guardians of the grid’. Several months later, we look back on the storm that hit the Mechelen region this summer, causing nine high-voltage pylons to topple over.

Our 5-part series, ‘Guardians of the Grid’, highlights the qualities that characterise our teams so well: expertise, commitment with safety as a top priority, cooperation, empathy, and a sense of duty to the community. Plug into new episodes each week in which residents, authorities, experts, and colleagues who were directly affected by this event reflect on the management of this crisis.

In episode 2, the experts explain exactly what happened in Leest. Weatherman David Denehauw explains the meteorological phenomenon that hit Leest. Additionally, our colleague, Pieter Smet, shares his analysis of the storm's impact on our infrastructure.
